BACKGROUND

A leading Australian manufacturer of health, beauty and personal care products, Ross Cosmetics began in 1921, importing cosmetics from overseas. By the 1940s, the company was producing brand-name products for some of the world’s largest personal-care companies under contract. Today, Ross Cosmetics specialises in formulating and producing high quality products for leading retailers and major local and international brands, with tailored product development and manufacturing.

SITUATION

Part of Ross Cosmetics’ mission is value-adding to its clients’ businesses through outstanding supply chain management. With increasing demand for products, the contract manufacturer needed to upgrade its out-dated labelling process of manually creating and applying TUN carton labels to match the rest of its stateof- the-art procedures.

PROCESS NEEDS

The equipment needed to be able to fit into Ross Cosmetics’ existing production line and be capable of applying either top or side labels as necessary.

BUSINESS NEEDS

The labeller needed to produce excellent quality print to match the client’s high-end pharmaceutical product and meet legal coding requirements.

SOLUTION

Ross Cosmetics chose to work with Matthews because of the supplier is well known in the market, with a strong reputation. On top of that, the price of the equipment recommended was competitive.

OUTCOME

Ross Cosmetics uses the Matthews A-Series T43 carton print-and-apply solution to code a variety of information, including TUNs, barcodes, product information and logo, addressing both legal and traceability requirements.

The unit sits on the end of the personal care production line, printing and applying either top or side labels onto shrink-wrapped products before they are placed into the shipper.

Ross Cosmetics has seen a good improvement in line efficiency and running costs due to the LPA, which runs for up to 10 hours, five days a week. Operators find it simple to change a ribbon or label reel and change the label design.

Ross Cosmetics’ ROI is as anticipated, and the company is “very happy with it”.
