Pharmaceutical

Coding and marking needs in the pharmaceutical industry include counterfeit protection, traceability and branding. Codes need to be highly readable and indelible in order to ensure product traceability and customer/patient safety.  There is a growing need for 2D codes within the industry.

Pharmaceutical product identification and counterfeit protection

With branding, food grade inks must be used to code directly onto products such as tablets and capsules. The Linx 7300FG Continuous Inkjet printer (CIJ), using Linx Food Grade ink, is a very safe way to mark these ingestible products.

CIJ printers are also well suited to printing batch and date codes, as well as “best before” dates on packaging. UV readable inks, that can only be read by UV light, can also be used in CIJ printers for security purposes.

Both laser coders and CIJ printers can be used to mark glass bottles. Labels might be via a Label Printer Applicator (LPA) or Label Applicator (LA).

Technologies for coding, labelling, traceability in Pharmaceutical

High resolution printing
High Resolution Printing
High Resolution Printing can be used on products as well as cartons for text and graphics.
Labelling fresh produce
Label Applicator (LA)
Label Applicator (LA) labelling systems apply pre-printed pressure-sensitive labels onto products.
Printing and applying labels to cartons
Label Printer Applicator (LPA)
LPA prints onto thermal transfer labels or thermal direct labels, then automatically applies those labels to an item. Ideal for printing barcode labels.
Datecoding using laser technology
Laser
Lasers are a very fast way to print high quality permanent codes on a vast range of substrates.
Linx CIJ printer printing on bottles
Small Character Continuous Inkjet (CIJ)
CIJ is a non-contact printing technology that can be used for coding on a variety of substrates even at high line speeds.
Vision Systems
Matthews has a range of vision systems for automated production processes for inspection, guidance, identification, measurement, tracking and counting - in many diverse industries.
